To Kathy S.

It looks like we missed your email also. You asked about sedation with the Fraxel Repair and the answer is "yes" we off that option if that's what you want. We have several options such as lidocaine cream with facial blocks to the blocks mixed with medications that put you in a very comfortable state. Those who opt for sleepy medicines must have a driver for after the procedure. Hope this helps.

Diane,

I checked through our blog and realized that we missed a couple of entries. I'm sorry we missed your important questions.

Melasma improves with Fraxel Repair treatment. In fact, it vastly improves conditions like rosacea, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles and much more.
However, Dr. VanAntwerp recently acquired the Fraxel Dual Laser. The dual energy laser offers vast improvements on the treatment of melasma. We see really good clearance of melasma with this laser. You can get back beautiful skin with just one treatment in most cases!

It would be best if you came in for a free consultation so that our doctors could
assess your condition. We would love to help.

I have melasma covering approximately 50% of each cheek area. Seems hormonal. Initially experienced with each of my pregnancies. Now 49yrs old and peri-menopausal, with return and increasing area of melasma over the past 2 years. Have heard Fraxel tx can worsen melasma is this true? Have used hydroquinone and retinol tx in past with variable results.

Linda,
Getting your skin "Re:paired" at 46 is a good thing to do! In fact, people who use laser energy on their face, neck and chest earlier rather than much later keep their skin young. The Fraxel Re:pair Laser and the Fraxel Restore Laser turn back the clock on aging. Laser energy wipes out sun damage such as age spots, broken blood vessels and skin discoloration. It will definitely tone down any redness that you have from your removed skin cancers. Fine lines and wrinkles go bye-bye with this treatment. Frown lines are often the result of muscles pulling your skin in a certain direction. Botox and sometimes dermal fillers nicely correct this problem. I know you said that you don't want to do injectables but for dynamic lines this is sometimes the best fix. Fraxel Re:pair absolutely tightens skin that is saggy due to sun damage, aging and good old gravity. It does this by impacting collagen with heat. Our patients notice an immediate tightening that continues to get even better over the next 6-8 weeks following treatment.

You should come in for a free consultation to learn how Dr. VanAntwerp custom designs the right mix of lasers to deal with your skin problems. The custom design that he applies to all Fraxel Re:stores comes with just one price tag. He wants you to get the best fix, not a "one size fits all" approach. Give us a call at (410) 544-4600. KVA

I had some little skin cancers removed from under my eye. I have a deep frown line that i would like to dissapear. I would like the skin tightened. I am 46 years old. People still tell me that i look younger than my years but i am not happy with the way it looks. Will the laser help these problems. I am really not interested in any temporary fixed. Like injections.

Hello Linda,
Dr. VanAntwerp just treated a woman last week for vertical lip lines when he did a Fraxel Re:pair. He customizes the treatment approach for each individual. In the case of the woman that I mentioned, he used the Erbium Laser on her upper lip to smooth out lines and bumps. He usually uses a mix of lasers when performing a facial rejuvenation. For example, the lasers used for tattoo removal get rid of permanent makeup. It's important to note that Dr. VanAntwerp uses additional lasers on you for just one rejuvenation price!

You asked whether or not the Fraxel Re:pair can tighten saggy skin along the jaw line and the answer is "yes!" Fraxel Re:pair tightens and thickens collagen. Thinning collagen causes our skin to sag as we age. We do have an excellent Beverly Hill's trained cosmetic surgeon on staff that can help you determine whether or not you might need something more to correct sagging facial planes.

Finally, the doctors will answer your questions more fully at your consultation. They really need to see you in order to advise a treatment plan. You will be pleased by what we have to offer.

I have an appointment for a consultation.....my main concerns are very deep vertical lip lines and some discoloration around the lip area due to a botched up permanent cosmetic lip job some years ago. I also wouldn't mind some tightening along my chin and those floppy jaw lines! Can the fraxel laser do all of this, or would I also need some kind of fillers/botox for the vertical lip lines?

Bonnie,

The effects are quite different in terms of just how much more Fraxel re:pair accomplishes for you. Thermage uses radio-frequency to heat and tighten the skin. Fraxel re:pair corrects sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, broken blood vessels and tightens loose skin.

Complications may include infection or an outbreak of cold sores. Dr. VanAntwerp prevents these complications by prescribing antibiotics and anti-virals one day prior to procedure. The doctor and his staff are very good about educating the patient on how to do careful aftercare. You also get close followup for approximately 10 days post-laser treatment.

Thermage treatment does tighten skin through thermal impact. We have noticed a higher degree of tightening on the face and neck with Fraxel re:pair. Look at the pictures on this blog and on our website to see how drooping skin and wrinkle folds lift and disappear. Make sure that you click on the pictures so that they enlarge. Our patients are very happy. Kathy V.-M

I have had 2 thermage treatments several years ago. How do the effects of that compare with Fraxel Repair? Are there risks to be aware of?
